Sylvia Paul

Based on the East Anglian coast, Sylvia says of her work:  “My new abstract work, which was initially inspired by a trip to Japan in 2006, has been a dramatic change in direction. Although having worked with paper collage for nearly 20 years as part of my representational work, I now have the freedom to explore the medium further without the restraints of the subject .
The Japanese inspired paintings include origami paper as well as tickets, newspaper and other found papers. I hope they reflect the strange juxtaposition of ancient and modern cultures.
The recent marine inspired work is a response to my local area of Harwich, the coast, and the marine environment including the comings and goings of the container ships at Felixstowe.”
