Based in Gloucestershire, Jane is a landscape painter who was born in Cheltenham in 1961.

For as long as she can remember there has been a pencil or paintbrush in Jane's hand. It is as much a part of her everyday life as breathing. She studied illustration at Harrow School of Art and then embarked on a career in design that lasted until a break to raise her family led her to return to painting. She has added teaching to her skills over the last 20 years, either in her studio or in a school environment. Working alongside other artists and encouraging students to try new approaches has kept her work fresh and original. Her chosen subject matter may be things that are often overlooked or go unnoticed and that is what makes her work unique; she is asking us to look at what interests her and see it through the lens of an artist.

Jane has held regular solo shows and recently completed the Porthmeor Programme in Cornwall which culminated in a group exhibition at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives. She says of her work:

“These recent paintings reflect my on-going fascination with light and its transient effects. Light through trees, strong bright negative shapes, the play of light over curves describing their form, flecks, blocks, and most of all, stripes. The rhythm of the light that hits you as you pass a fence or shuttered wall, the splay of shadows thrown on a path by branches overhead.”
