This was the year of geo political uncertainty, economic inflation and a slow housing market which in turn led to poorer sales in the art world. In light of this I decided against doing an expensive art fair. However it was not all doom and gloom. We had an incredible summer and in the garden it was the year of the Dahlias…
The year started (and continued) with an ongoing rotation of artists in The Nuttery Cafe in Notgrove. A quintessentially Cotswold village and a destination for walkers. Sales over the year were achieved for Sue Godfrey, Eleanor Woolley and Lorraine Houston.
This was followed by a group exhibition in February/March in Sevenhampton and sales were achieved for work by Janet James, Sue Godfrey and Helen Slater Stokes.
In April, we held an Open Weekend for our subscribers and sold work by John Henry, Kerry Phippen and Sue Godfrey.
I curated an online exhibition of ‘Flowers in Bloom’ with wonderful still lives by a variety of gallery artists. I also wrote an accompanying blog which is available to read on the website. Interesting that people often turn to flower paintings as an antidote to the modern world. The actual paintings were available to view physically on an open day and we got many compliments on how uplifting they were in troubled times.
Sales continued quietly online and by appointment throughout the summer of work by Lorraine Houston, John Henry and Helen Slater Stokes.
In September we held an Open Day for subscribers in Sevenhampton, with the garden full of Dahlias after an amazing summer of endless blue skies and sold work by Janet James.
In November we held a pop up exhibition in Montpellier Cheltenham entitled ‘Terrestrial’’ and met lots of interesting people as well as selling work by Jenny Graham, Betty Harrison, Lorraine Houston, Janet James and Helen Slater Stokes.
I curated a Christmas Edit online but decided not to hold a pre Christmas show as the weather can be unpredictable here in the hills and the last one I held was poorly attended, however after-sales from the exhibition in November followed right up until Christmas with work being sold online, in person, by email and video call. Sales were achieved for artists Jenny Graham, Janet James, and Helen Slater Stokes.
In short it wasn’t an easy year by any means but not unenjoyable and I am grateful for all the support of regular clients and the amazing artists who contribute.
