Winter Exhibition 2024 in Sevenhampton

After a very wet and warm winter, with no snow in the Cotswolds this year, I opened our ‘Winter’ Exhibition in February. There was no chance of clearing the ice from the paths, awaiting the gritting lorry with hot anticipation, or the snow plough. Whilst this did remove a certain amount of jeopardy from organising an event in Winter, it did feel more like Spring - but without the flowers and blossom.

I had some lovely new work by Mike Ibbotson, Jenny Graham, Mike Duckering, Malcolm Ashman RWA and Lorraine Houston. Paintings by Betty Harrison were heavily featured and I enjoyed hanging a four metre wall with 18, mainly small, works by this popular artist.

I also showed large seascapes by Jane Skingley, landscapes by Sue Godfrey and semi-abstract landscapes by Janet James. Also on view were paintings by John Henry, Kerry Phippen and Jane Boot.  Glass by Helen Slater Stokes.

The preview was better attended than expected with a steady crowd. A glass of wine and a homemade sausage roll were on offer and there was a good mix of clients, artists and general art lovers. My expectations were low after a difficult year last year and a general reluctance among people to go out these days. However, the exhibition got off to a good start with sales for Lorraine Houston, Betty Harrison, John Henry and Karin Friedli.

As the exhibition progressed there was further sales for Betty Harrison, Mike Duckering and Kate Loveday. This all heralds a gradual improvement in this sector of the art market and one that is much needed by artists.

I am grateful to those who came from Wiltshire, Wales, London and the Midlands to visit the exhibition and welcome those new to the gallery.
