Kerry Phippen was born in Perth in 1968 and has lived in the Stroud valleys since 1999. She works from her home studio on the edge of Slad valley.
Kerry regularly revisits her Scottish upbringing for inspiration and has a particular affinity with the Scottish Highlands and Islands including Mull, Skye and Shetland. She is on the lookout for magic in the everyday and is a bit of a stargazer and cloud watcher by nature. Her work is often triggered by seeing a figure or animal in nature offering a sense of scale and signs of life in otherwise quiet landscapes.
Walking on location and making observational drawings and notes in sketchbooks,  Kerry works from her sketches, supporting photographs and imagination to produce emotionally felt, atmospheric landscapes in pastel, oil or acrylic.
Kerry has a BA Hons in Fine Art Drawing and MFA Painting from Bath Spa University. Her work has been exhibited in many National venues including the Royal Scottish Academy, The Jerwood Drawing Prize, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and has exhibited several times at the RWA Annual Exhibition in Bristol. She has a drawing in the permanent collection of  Prints and Drawings at The British Museum.
Kerry is looking forward to an artist’s residency in summer 2023 in the Shetland Islands.
