Liz works from her home and studio in South London and studied Fine Art at Bristol from 1976-1981, completing a BA (Hons) and subsequently exhibiting at art fairs in London and Bath and at the RA summer exhibition in the 1980s. In parallel with her art, and encompanssing her love of plants, she became a very successful landscape designer for many years. In recent years the balance has now once again shifted but this time towards full time painting. She says of her work:
“My work is primarily about a direct response to and celebration of the landscape, colour and light. Working from nature, the race against changing light and weather enforces a focus and speed and economy of expression. The familiarity with my subject, built from years of experience and working with plants in the landscape, result in paintings that invoke the beauty and ethereal essence of a place. The paintings are made both outside in the landscape and back in the sutdio, wher I can manipulate the visual language to new effect thus immersing one in totally new experience. I use mainly oil, enjoying its fluidity and versatility. Colour possesses me; the ability it has to change and create a mood, a dialgoue, a discord or a surprise. The work is ,at the same time ,amorphic and identifiable, hovering between abstraction and figuration. I like to play with this ambivalence leaving open th possibitiliy for interpretation. “
